Whole House Pipe Replacement
In the 80’s and early 90’s, a plastic piping called polybutylene became popular in BC homes. If your home has a grey plastic piping, it is probably polybutylene- but it can be other colours. Unfortunately, this piping can be degraded by the chlorine found in drinking water, and often begins to crack and leak after 10-20 years of usage.
We recommend that polybutylene piping systems be replaced with PEX piping systems. PEX piping has been used for over 30 years and has been found to be much longer lasting than polybutylene. However, it requires much less damage to be done to the home (in terms of opening walls and ceilings) than replacement with copper pipes does.
