Boiler Installations
There are many factors to consider when installing a new boiler. We install many different types of systems and can design one to meet your needs. Call 604 GOOD GUY (604 466 3489) to schedule a free quote and one of our comfort advisors will go over your options with you.
System Efficiency
Many older boilers are only about 65% efficient, and some are even less. This means that only 65% of the heat they produce is transferred to the water that heats your home. The rest is lost up the chimney. New boilers are between 80% and 98% efficient, and can save you up to 40% on your utility costs.
Modulation
When older boilers turn on, they only run at full capacity. This means that on a mild day or when only one area of your home is being heated, they will constantly come on for a couple minutes at a time. Most new high efficiency boilers can match their output to the home’s needs and run at a consistent lower level. This results in energy savings, quieter operation, and reduced hot and cold spots in your home.
Steel vs. Corrosion-Resistant Heat Exchangers
Most boilers have steel heat exchangers. The water passing through them will eventually rust them away. Copper and stainless steel are preferable as they will last much longer.
Using corrosion-resistant materials is especially important when you have polybutylene (grey plastic) piping. In homes with this kind of piping, copper or stainless steel boilers are mandatory.
Heat Water For Tap & Space Heating With One System
Combination boilers, which can heat tap water as well as water for home heating are becoming increasingly popular. The Navien NCB boiler can heat your home at up to 98% efficiency and also replace your hot water tank to provide an endless supply of hot water. With its stainless steel heat exchanger, it is suitable for homes with polybutylene piping (and all other forms of piping).
An indirect-fired water heater can also be added to a boiler. These store water that is heated by the boiler. While they are more expensive than regular hot water tanks, they can be reheated more quickly and are more energy efficient. Since they are made out of stainless steel, they also last longer than regular hot water tanks.

How much do new boilers cost?
New high efficiency combination boilers that qualify for FortisBC rebates start at about $12,800 (before FortisBC rebate), including installation. These systems will replace both your boiler and hot water tank.
