Things to check before calling
There are a few things you should check before calling for service. These items may seem obvious, but we commonly receive repair calls over these simple issues.
• Make sure your thermostats are set high enough. Try raising the temperature.
• Make sure your boiler is turned on. The switch is usually located on a wall outside the boiler room.
• Check for a tripped circuit breaker or blown fuse. If this happens more than once, you have a problem.
• Newer boilers often have a reset button. Hold it for 3 seconds (unless the manufacturer’s instructions are otherwise) and then wait a few minutes for the boiler to restart. Only try this once.
• Older boilers may have a pilot light. If it is not lit, see if the manufacturer has relighting instructions on the boiler.
Boiler repair vs. replacement
On average, boilers are expected to last 15-20 years. If your boiler is approaching the 15 year mark, you may want to consider replacing it rather than repairing it.
As of January 1st, 2022, all new boilers installed in BC must be at least 90% efficient.
Combination boilers are single systems that provide hot water for both home heating and hot tap water. They replace both a hot water tank and a boiler. We can repair and install combination boilers.
