When you install an Energy Star hot water tank before, FortisBC will give you a $200 rebate.
Energy Star hot water tanks have Energy Factors of 0.67 or above. This means that at least 67% of the heat generated ends up in hot water that is used, while the rest is wasted.
Standard new hot water tanks have Energy Factors of 0.62 or 0.63 (for 40 gallon models).
We install Rheem Energy Star tanks that are 69% efficient, meaning they use about 10% less energy than standard new tanks, and up to 25% less energy than older tanks.
Energy Star models are more efficient because the have a motorized damper (a type of valve) that closes when the tank is not in use, which prevents heat from being lost up the chimney.
We charge $1229 to install an Energy Star hot water tank, which includes installation and removal of your old tank. Since standard gas hot water tanks cost $929 to install, anEnergy Star tank will only cost $100 more ($1029) after the rebate.
